in the mean time…

to prove that there is a reason behind my hiatus, you should check out my portfolio.

Also, here’s a weird bit of memorabilia/ephemera taken from the files of my university’s radio station, KLPI in Ruston, LA. Jeff Mangum was a DJ there at one point:

Apparently we both can agree that Velvet Underground is “morning” music.

So, this summer has proven counterproductive for blog-writing. Like Ishmael, “I am tormented with an everlasting itch for things remote.” And a reliable wireless connection is the last thing you’ll find. I hate to put this blog on an official hiatus, but I know that this year I’ll be frantically trying to complete my BFA, so I’ll give you the unposted remains of my mediafire account as a parting gift. (If you only try one, do yourself a favor and check out Stag Hare. You’ll sleep better.)

So here it is. The noisey/drone/shitgaze/psychedelic shakedown. It’s all I have left to give, for now anyhow:

I saw Pterodactyl put on a killer show in Dallas a few months ago but they packed up all of their merch before I had a chance to buy anything! I finally got my hands on the second album from this Brooklyn-based noisy post-punk quartet and here it is for you to try. It’s worth the download if only for “First Daze.”

Black Lips!

*EDIT* Links removed by request and because they put on an awesome show with Those Darlins! I’m leaving “Athens Alternates,” though. To buy their music, go here. (If you want it terribly, let me know and I’ll get it to you. but come on, you’re probably a semi-intelligent enterprising person. Find it yourself!)

Saw a Black Lips show several days ago at the Mercy Lounge and decided to share all of their albums that I own. Sound good to you?

It seems like every time I update I have to apologize for the lack of posts… but I swear, I had no idea that relocating to Nashville meant having a life! with new bffs! and popsicle dance parties! (PS- If you’re in Nashvegas, drop by the 5 spot on Monday nights. I’ll be the girl with boogie fever.)

Alors, Here is some noise-pop/shoe-gazey brilliance from Natural Numbers, a 13 year old kid named Trevor from Indiana if the rumors are true. A few days ago, however, he killed the project. So, here’s what I have. R.I.P. Natural Numbers:

Diet Cola 7″

Josh Fauver of Deerhunter and SIDS released a 7″ as Diet Cola. Fun garage-trashing spastic synth punk that’s, according to his myspace, “not as faggy as you’d think.” I agree!

So, you’ll have to forgive me for the update drought. The past few weeks have forced me to fuck with the time-space continuum and squeeze extra hours into the day just to finish everything I needed to do before I came to Nashville. But now I’m here and je suis amoureuse. So far I’ve already bumped into Will Oldham and designed my first poster. I have also acquired the enviable skill of being able to tell 24 pt. Franklin Gothic Condensed from Franklin Gothic Extra Condensed at fifty paces.

Alors, I needed to update and City Center (project of Fred Thomas and Ryan Howard) needed to be posted. Voila!

“Eric August, a teenage boy from Illinois, had a great interest in electronic music. He decided one day that he would start making electronic music based on Psyduck from the popular TV show/video game/card game Pokemon. He would create songs by fusing electronics with clips from the Pokemon TV show, while creating a psychic/ambient aura using influences from noise music. Once he would finish recording a song, he would put up his music on myspace for all of his friends to listen to and download.” -last.fm (He’s also quite a nice fellow. You’re going to want to check this out)

Modern Krautrock. This is the sort of psychedelic spacey drone music that I can listen to actively rather than passively. I’ve heard this called “spirit rock” and I agree.
